Abstract
The author has tried to trace the conception on the aetiology of dysentery and the explanation on the symptoms and treatment of dysentery, treating of materials equivalent to those of modern medicine, obtained mainly from the medical classics: Hyang-Yak-Jip-Sung-Bang(Collection of Home Produced Drugs) and Tong-Eui-Po-Kam (Treasury of Oriental Medicine).
The author has come to the following conclusions:
(1) They attributed the aetiology of dysentery to hot and cold.
(2) They brought about, though in fragments, a characteristic description on the
symptoms of dysentery.
(3) They had a deep concern about the contagiousness of dysentery.
(4) The drugs in the prescriptions for the treatment of dysentery are supposed to be available, more or less, to reduce the symptoms of dysentery.
